Ingredients
- 2 cups of urad dal (black gram)
- 2 cups of bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon of asafoetida powder

- 1 cup of plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder
- 2 tablespoons of chopped coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of roasted cumin powder
- 2 tablespoons of chopped mint leaves
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Instructions
Making the dumplings
To make the dumplings, take the urad dal and soak it in water for 2-3 hours. Once the dal has been soaked, drain the water and grind it into a thick paste. Add the bread crumbs, cumin powder, asafoetida powder, coriander leaves and salt and mix it all together until it forms a dough. Take small portions of the dough and shape them into round dumplings. Heat oil in a deep-frying pan and deep-fry the dumplings until they are golden-brown and crispy. Once they have been fried, drain them on a paper towel to remove any excess oil.
Making the yogurt sauce
To make the yogurt sauce, take the plain yogurt and whisk it until it is smooth. Add the cumin powder, red chilli powder, coriander leaves, sugar and roasted cumin powder and whisk it all together. Finally, add the chopped mint leaves and lemon juice and mix it all together. Serve the yogurt sauce over the dumplings.
