  • 1/4 cup of cold water

Instructions

Once you have all your ingredients gathered, you can begin to make your canning apple pie filling. Start by combining the apples, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and lemon juice in a large pot. Stir everything together and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After 10 minutes, stir in the 1/2 cup of water and let the mixture continue to simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and 1/4 cup of cold water until smooth. Slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the pot and stir until the mixture thickens. Let the mixture simmer for an additional 5 minutes or until thickened.

Once the mixture has thickened, turn off the heat and let cool for 10 minutes. Carefully ladle the filling into sterile canning jars and seal. Process the jars in a boiling-water bath for 10 minutes. Once the jars have been processed, let them cool for 24 hours before using.
