- 2 to 3 green chillies (chopped)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons of fresh grated coconut
- 2 to 3 tablespoons of chopped curry leaves
- A pinch of asafoetida
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups of water

Instructions



To make Arisi Upma, start by washing and soaking the rice for at least 10 minutes. After soaking, drain the water and keep aside.

In a pan, heat the oil and add in the mustard seeds. When they begin to splutter, add in the urad dal, chana dal, and split bengal gram.

Sauté the ingredients for a few minutes until they turn golden brown. Then add in the cumin seeds, green chillies, fresh grated coconut, chopped curry leaves, and asafoetida.

Sauté the ingredients for a few more minutes until the coconut turns golden brown. Now add in the drained rice and stir it for a few minutes.

Add in 2 cups of water and season it with salt. Cover the lid and cook the mixture for about 10 minutes or until the rice is cooked.

Once the rice is cooked, fluff it up with a fork and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
