Original Anzac Biscuit Recipe 1914
Ingredients
This traditional Anzac biscuit recipe comes from the 1914 edition of the Australian Womenโs Weekly. It includes rolled oats, plain flour, sugar, butter, golden syrup, bicarbonate of soda and boiling water.
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 125g butter
- 2 tablespoons golden syrup
- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 2 tablespoons boiling water
Instructions
Preheat oven to 160ยฐC. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Combine oats, flour and sugar in a bowl. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over a low heat, then add to the oat mixture. Mix everything together well.
In a separate bowl, mix the golden syrup, bicarbonate of soda and boiling water. Add this to the oat mixture and stir until everything is combined.
Roll tablespoon amounts of the mixture into balls and put them on the prepared tray. Flatten them slightly and leave some room for the biscuits to spread.
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Leave them to cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
