Ingredients:

Making dal dhokli requires some simple ingredients - 1 cup toor dal, 1/2 cup chana dal, 1/2 cup moong dal, 1/2 cup masoor dal, 2 tablespoons of tamarind paste, 2 tablespoons of jaggery, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 2-3 green chillies, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder, 1 teaspoon of coriander powder, 1 teaspoon of garam masala, 1 teaspoon of aamchur powder, 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 2 tablespoons of oil, 2 tablespoons of ghee, 2-3 cloves of garlic, 1 finely chopped onion, 2 tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 2-3 curry leaves, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 cup of chopped coriander leaves.

Instructions:

To begin with, pressure cook the toor dal, chana dal, moong dal and masoor dal together in a pressure cooker with 4 cups of water for about 3-4 whistles. Once done, let it cool down and then mash it with the back of a spoon. In a pan, heat some oil and ghee. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter. Now add the garlic and onion and sauté until the onion turns golden brown. Then add the chopped tomatoes, green chillies, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, aamchur powder, mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Stir everything together and sauté for a few minutes. Now add the mashed dal and mix it well. Add the tamarind paste, jaggery and salt and mix it again. Now add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Finally, add the black pepper, curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes until it reaches your desired consistency. Serve the delicious dal dhokli hot with some steamed rice.
