Dosa and Tomato Chutney Recipe

Ingredients

Dosa is a popular Indian dish, and it is prepared with a variety of ingredients. The main ingredients for dosa are rice and lentils. The rice and lentils are soaked overnight and ground into a paste. The paste is then spread on a hot pan to make the dosa. For this recipe, you will need: 2 cups of white rice, ½ cup of urad dal or black lentils, 2 tablespoons of chana dal, 2 tablespoons of moong dal, 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 2 tablespoons of ghee, Salt to taste.

For the tomato chutney, you will need: 4-5 tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of oil, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds, Salt to taste, ½ teaspoon of chilli powder, 2-3 cloves of garlic, 2-3 green chillies, 1 tablespoon of tamarind paste, A small bunch of coriander leaves.

Instructions

To begin, wash the rice and lentils. Soak them overnight in 2-3 cups of water. The next day, drain the soaked rice and lentils and grind them into a smooth paste. Add a little water if needed to help the grinding process. You can also use a blender or food processor to grind the paste.

Once the paste is ready, heat a non-stick pan and spread the paste evenly over the pan. Cover the pan and let the dosa cook for 5-7 minutes. Once the edges of the dosa start to brown, flip the dosa and cook the other side for 2-3 minutes. Serve the dosa hot with some ghee on top.

For the tomato chutney, heat the oil in a pan and add the cumin and mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add the chopped tomatoes and salt. Saute the tomatoes for 5-7 minutes. Add the chilli powder, garlic, green chillies, tamarind paste and coriander leaves. Saute for another few minutes. Cool the mixture and grind it into a smooth paste. Serve the tomato chutney with the dosa.
