Chilli Jam Recipes River Cottage
Ingredients
You’ll need the following ingredients for this recipe:
- 2 red chillies, finely chopped
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1 thumb sized piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of tomato purée
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
To make the chilli jam, start by heating the olive oil in a large saucepan over a medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chopped chillies, onion, garlic, and ginger and cook for five minutes, stirring occasionally. Once the vegetables have softened, add the tomato purée, cumin, smoked paprika, sugar, and red wine vinegar and stir to combine. Cook for another five minutes, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
When the jam has thickened and reduced, season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat and let cool completely. Once cooled, transfer the jam to a sterilised jar and store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Serving Suggestions
Chilli jam is a great addition to sandwiches, burgers, tacos and more. It can also be used as a marinade for meat, fish and vegetables. It’s also delicious stirred through fried rice, noodles, or scrambled eggs. Enjoy!
