Recipe For Shepherd's Pie With Lamb Mince
Ingredients
This delicious shepherd's pie with lamb mince is a hearty and comforting meal to make for your family. It's a great way to use up leftover lamb mince and can easily be adapted to suit different tastes. The ingredients you will need are:
- 500g lean minced lamb
- 2 onions, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 2 tablespoons of tomato puree
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 500ml beef or lamb stock
- 2 tablespoons of plain flour
- 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped herbs (such as rosemary and thyme)
- 1 teaspoon of sea salt
- 1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1kg of potatoes, peeled and diced
- 100g of butter
- 100ml of milk
- 100g of grated cheese
Instructions
This shepherd's pie recipe is easy to follow and can be ready in just over an hour. To start, preheat your oven to 200C/400F/Gas Mark 6. Next, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, carrots and celery and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until softened.
Add the minced lamb and cook for a further 5 minutes, stirring regularly. Add the tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, stock, flour, herbs, salt and pepper and stir until everything is well combined. Bring to the boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. The mixture should be thick and the lamb cooked through.
Meanwhile, place the potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to the boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the potatoes are cooked. Drain the potatoes and place them back in the saucepan. Add the butter and milk and mash until creamy and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Spoon the lamb mince into an ovenproof dish and spread it out evenly. Top with the mashed potatoes and spread it out to cover the lamb mince. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes until golden brown.
Once cooked, remove from the oven and serve with your favourite vegetables. Enjoy!
