Traditional Australian Meat Pie With Mushy Peas Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 onions, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/4 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/3 cup beef broth
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 9-inch pie crusts
Instructions:
Step 1:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they are golden brown and softened, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef and oregano and cook until the beef is no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Add the tomato paste, red wine, and Worcestershire sauce and simmer until the liquid is reduced, about 10 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9-inch pie dish with one of the pie crusts. Pour the beef mixture into the pie dish and top with the mashed peas. Cover the top with the remaining pie crust and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape.
Step 4:
Bake the pie for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Allow the pie to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
