Instructions



To get started, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the Italian sausage and cook until it is browned and cooked through, about 8 minutes. Add the bell pepper, mushrooms, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.

Spray the slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the sausage mixture into the slow cooker. Add the penne pasta and stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
