Instructions

1. Soak the urad dal in enough water for 2 to 3 hours. Drain the water and grind the dal to a coarse paste. Add the cumin seeds and baking soda and mix well.

2. Heat the oil in a deep-frying pan. Take a small portion of the dal paste and shape into a round ball. Gently drop it in the oil and deep fry till golden brown. Repeat with the remaining dal paste. Drain and keep aside.

3. In a bowl, whisk the yogurt, sugar, cardamom and cumin powder. Add the fried dumplings to the yogurt mixture and mix well. Add the salt and mix again.

4. To serve, place the dahi vada on a serving dish. Drizzle the tamarind chutney and mint chutney over the top. Serve chilled.
