Batata Vada In Appam Pan is an exotic dish that can be served as a starter or as an accompaniment to a meal. Ingredients

  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup of gram flour
  • 2 tablespoons of oil for shallow frying
  • 1 Appam pan

Instructions

Start by boiling the potatoes. Once they are boiled and cooled, mash them. In a bowl, mix the mashed potatoes, onion, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and salt. Mix everything together until it forms a dough like consistency. Make small balls out of the dough and keep aside.

Take a pan and heat the oil. Once the oil is hot, add the potato balls and shallow fry them. Once they are golden brown in colour, remove them from the pan and keep aside. Now take the Appam pan and heat it. Once the pan is hot, add a tablespoon of oil and spread it evenly. Now place the fried potato balls in the pan and let them cook for about 5 minutes or until golden brown in colour.

Once the potato balls are cooked, remove them from the pan and serve them hot with chutney or ketchup. You can also serve them as an accompaniment to a meal. Enjoy!
