Crispy Chilli Beef – A Slimming World Treat


Do you think it’s impossible to enjoy a delicious Chinese takeaway with a Slimming World diet? Think again! This light and tasty Crispy Chilli Beef dish is a great low-Syn alternative that can be enjoyed by everyone. It’s full of flavour and texture and makes an ideal mid-week meal. Here’s how to make it.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 400g lean beef steak, cut into thin strips
  • 2 bell peppers, seeded and sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 red chillies, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp soft brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander, finely chopped
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

Start by mixing the cornflour and all the ground spices together in a bowl. Add the beef strips and toss to coat. Heat the sesame oil in a large wok or frying pan over a high heat. Add the beef strips and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Add the bell peppers, onion and garlic to the pan and fry for a further 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously. Return the beef to the pan and add the chillies, tomato puree, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, sugar and half of the chopped coriander.

Stir everything together and cook for a further 5 minutes until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened. Remove from the heat and serve with lime wedges, the remaining coriander and your choice of accompaniments.

This dish is a great option for those following a Slimming World diet as it’s low in Syns. Each portion contains 5 Syns and provides a good source of protein. It’s also a great source of vitamins A, C, E and B6, as well as calcium, iron, zinc and magnesium.

The sesame oil used in this dish is also a good source of healthy fats, which can help to reduce cholesterol levels and boost the immune system. The bell peppers and onion also provide a good source of dietary fibre, which can help to keep you feeling fuller for longer.
