Cheese Scone Recipe Mary Berry
Ingredients
The easiest way to make cheese scones is to use Mary Berry's recipe. This recipe will produce 8 cheese scones and you will need the following ingredients: 225g/8oz self-raising flour, pinch of salt, 50g/2oz butter, 75g/3oz mature Cheddar cheese, roughly grated, 150ml/¼ pint cold milk.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the grated cheese. Make a well in the centre and gradually add the milk, a little at a time, stirring with a round-bladed knife until the mixture forms a soft dough. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for a few moments until the dough is smooth. Roll or pat out the dough to a thickness of about 2.5cm/1in.
Using a 5cm/2in fluted cutter, cut out the scones and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet. Re-roll the trimmings and cut out more scones. Brush the tops of the scones with a little extra milk. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden-brown on the top. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
