    Malabar Paratha Vs Lachha Paratha


    Malabar and Lachha Parathas are two of the most popular Indian flatbreads. Both are made with whole wheat flour, but they have quite a few differences. In this article, we will discuss the differences between the two and how to make each one.

    Ingredients


    Malabar Paratha:
    • 2 cups whole wheat flour
    • 2 tablespoons oil, plus more for cooking
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon sugar
    • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
    • ½ cup warm water


    Lachha Paratha:
    • 2 cups whole wheat flour
    • 2 tablespoons oil, plus more for cooking
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon sugar
    • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
    • ¾ cup warm water
    • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, for dusting

    Instructions


    Malabar Paratha:
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour, oil, salt, sugar, baking powder, and warm water. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
    • Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape them into balls. Roll each ball into a circle about 10 inches in diameter.
    • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Place one of the circles on the skillet and cook for about 2 minutes, flipping occasionally until it is lightly browned on both sides.
    • Brush the top with a bit of oil and cook for another minute. Flip the paratha and brush the other side with oil. Cook for another minute and remove from the skillet.
    • Repeat with the remaining parathas.
