It takes a bit of time and effort to make, but it's definitely worth it. The creamy texture and nutty flavor make it a favorite among many Indian households. Plus, it's a great way to use up leftover moong dal. Here's how you can make it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 1/4 cup Ghee
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1/4 cup Dry Fruits (Almonds, Cashews, Raisins)
  • 2-3 Cardamom Pods
  • 1/4 teaspoon Saffron Strands
  • A pinch of Nutmeg Powder

Instructions:

Begin by washing and soaking the moong dal in water for at least an hour. After this, take a heavy-bottomed saucepan and heat it on medium-low heat. Add the ghee and let it melt. Then add the soaked moong dal and roast it for about 5 minutes. Make sure to stir it continuously to avoid burning. Once the dal turns golden brown, add the water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes.

Once the dal is cooked, add the sugar and stir until it gets dissolved completely. Then, add the milk and dry fruits and cook for another 5 minutes. After that, add the cardamom powder and mix it in. Finally, add the saffron strands and nutmeg powder. Give it a good stir and remove it from the heat. Your Moong Dal Halwa is now ready to be served.

Serving and Storage:

Moong Dal Halwa can be served both hot and cold. You can garnish it with some more dry fruits, saffron strands, and cardamom powder. Serve it with a scoop of ice cream, and you have a delicious and hearty dessert. You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat it before serving.
