Authentic Portuguese Egg Tart Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked pie crust, store-bought or homemade
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven



Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a 9 inch tart pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray. Place the pie crust into the pan, pressing it into the edges and up the sides. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork.

Step 2: Make the Custard



In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter. Pour the mixture into the pie crust. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the custard is set.

Step 3: Cool and Serve



Remove the tart from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature. Serve the Portuguese egg tart with a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
