How To Make Delicious Steak And Kidney Pie

Ingredients

To make this delicious steak and kidney pie, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 500g of diced steak
  • 500g of lambs' kidneys, washed and cut into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons of plain flour
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1 beef stock cube

  • 400ml of boiling water

To make this delicious steak and kidney pie, you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Preheat your oven to 190 degrees Celsius.
  2. Add the diced steak and lambs' kidneys to a large bowl, and sprinkle with the flour, salt and pepper.
  3. Mix together until all the pieces are evenly coated with the flour.
  4. Heat a large frying pan over a medium heat, and add a tablespoon of oil. Fry the steak and kidney pieces for 5 minutes, until they are lightly browned.
  5. Add the chopped onion, carrots and Worcestershire sauce to the pan and cook for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Add the tomato purée, beef stock cube and boiling water to the pan. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the pan from the heat and stir through the chopped parsley. Leave to cool while you prepare the pastry.
  8. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut out two circles that are slightly larger than the size of your pie dish.
  9. Line the pie dish with one of the pastry circles and spoon in the steak and kidney mixture.
  10. Brush the edges of the pastry with a little beaten egg, then cover with the remaining pastry circle and press the edges together to seal.
  11. Make a few small slits in the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape and brush the top with the remaining beaten egg.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown.
  13. Serve with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
