Mumbai Style Vada Pav Recipe
Mumbai style vada pav is a popular Indian street food. It is a potato patty stuffed inside a soft bread bun and then served with a variety of chutneys. This delicious snack is a favorite among people of all ages and is a great way to satisfy your cravings for something spicy and delicious. This recipe is easy to put together and can be served as a light meal or a tasty snack.
Ingredients
For the vada:
- 2 potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chillies, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
For the pav:
- 4 white bread buns
- 1 teaspoon melted butter
For the chutney:
- 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 2 green chillies
- 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon jaggery
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
Instructions
Preparing the Vada
In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, onion, green chillies, ginger-garlic paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, coriander leaves, and salt. Mix everything together until the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Divide the mixture into 8 equal parts and shape each part into a round patty. Heat some oil in a pan and fry the patties on both sides until golden brown. Drain the patties on a plate lined with paper towels.
Preparing the Pav
Split the buns into halves and brush each half with melted butter. Toast the buns on a hot tawa or skillet until golden brown.
Preparing the Chutney
In a blender, add the roasted peanuts, grated coconut, green chillies, tamarind paste, jaggery, salt and coriander leaves. Blend everything together until it forms a smooth paste.
Assembling the Vada Pav
Spread some of the prepared chutney on the inside of each bun. Place a vada in between the buns and serve.
