Ingredients
For this lasagna recipe with bechamel sauce, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 pound of lasagna noodles
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of oregano
- 1 teaspoon of basil
- 1 24-ounce jar of marinara sauce
- 2 cups of ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
- For the bechamel sauce:
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 2 cups of whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Noodles
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions. Drain the noodles and set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef and season with the salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Cook until the beef is no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Pour in the marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Assemble the Lasagna
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
Spread 1/2 cup of the marinara sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/2 of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles. Top with 1/2 of the beef mixture. Arrange 4 more lasagna noodles over the beef mixture and spread the remaining ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles. Top with the remaining beef mixture and arrange the remaining lasagna noodles over the beef.
Step 4: Make the Bechamel Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 3 minutes. Slowly whisk in the milk and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
Step 5: Bake the Lasagna
Pour the bechamel sauce over the lasagna noodles. Top with the mozzarella cheese. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
