If you’ve ever had a craving for Onion Bhaji and wondered how to make it, you’ve come to the right place! This classic Indian dish is crispy, crunchy and packed with flavour. Follow these simple steps to create the most delicious Onion Bhaji ever.
Ingredients
For this recipe, you’ll need:
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 1 cup chickpea flour (also known as besan)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
Start by combining the chickpea flour, cumin powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, baking powder, coriander, and salt in a bowl. Add enough water to make a thick batter.
Now, add the chopped onions and mix well. Heat the oil in a pan over a medium heat. Once the oil is hot, spoon a tablespoon of the onion-batter mixture into the pan and flatten it slightly.
Fry the bhaji until it is golden brown on both sides. This should take around 4-5 minutes. Once cooked, remove the bhaji from the pan and place it on a plate lined with kitchen paper to absorb any excess oil.
Repeat this process with the remaining batter, until all the bhajis are cooked. Serve the Onion Bhajis hot, with your favourite chutney or raita.
