Authentic Kerala Prawn Curry Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound prawns
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- 2 tablespoons garlic, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- ½ cup coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Instructions
Start by marinating the prawns with turmeric powder and coriander powder. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and green chillies. Fry for a few seconds and then add garlic, ginger, onions and tomatoes. Fry until the onions are golden brown.
Now add red chilli powder and fry for a few minutes. Then add the marinated prawns and mix well. Add a little water and simmer for 10 minutes.
Add the coconut milk, curry leaves and salt to taste. Simmer for 5 minutes or until the prawns are cooked through.
Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or chapati.
