Instructions for Making Bara Brith

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch (23 cm) loaf tin. 2. Sift the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves into a large bowl and mix together. 3. In a separate bowl, beat the butter and light brown sugar together until light and creamy. 4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. 5. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until just combined. 6. Add the dried fruits, orange juice/brandy and hot water and stir until combined. 7. Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf tin and bake for 45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. 8. Allow to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

How Long Does Bara Brith Keep?

Bara Brith is best eaten within a few days of baking, however it can be stored for up to a week. To store Bara Brith, it should be wrapped in parchment paper and then foil and kept at room temperature. If you want to keep it for longer, it can be frozen for up to 3 months. To thaw, simply remove from the freezer and leave at room temperature for a few hours.
