Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to make this savoury mince pie:

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 200g lean minced beef
  • 1 tablespoon tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 400g tin diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup frozen sweetcorn
  • 1 sheet of ready-made puff pastry

Instructions

Now that you have all your ingredients, let’s get started.

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas mark 6.
  2. In a large frying pan, heat some oil over a medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the grated carrots and cook for another 2 minutes. Then add the minced beef and cook until browned.
  4. Add the tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano and pepper. Stir to combine and cook for a few minutes.
  5. Add the tinned tomatoes and stir to combine. Simmer for about 10 minutes, until the mince is cooked through.
  6. Add the frozen peas and sweetcorn and stir to combine. Simmer for another 5 minutes. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  7. Line a 20cm pie dish with the puff pastry. Spoon the mince mixture into the pastry-lined dish.
  8. Cut a few slits in the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and the mince is cooked through.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
