The Best Chocolate for Drip Cake

Chocolate drip cakes are all the rage these days. They’re taking over Instagram feeds and appearing on the dessert tables of weddings and other special occasions. The cake itself is usually a simple two- or three-layer cake, but it’s the chocolate drip that makes it truly stand out. But what kind of chocolate should you use to make the perfect drip cake?

Ingredients

To make the perfect chocolate drip cake, you’ll need: 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips. You’ll also need a simple two- or three-layer cake, frosted with buttercream.

Instructions

The first step is to melt the chocolate. To do this, put the semi-sweet chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips into a heat-safe bowl. Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it’s just simmering. Pour the heavy cream over the chocolate chips, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.

Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, you’re ready to start dripping. Carefully pour the melted chocolate around the edge of the cake. You can do this with a spoon or a piping bag. Start at the top of the cake, and work your way around the edge. Keep going until you’ve reached the bottom of the cake.

If you want to add a few drips down the sides of the cake, you can use a spoon to help guide the chocolate. Take a spoon, and press it against the side of the cake. Then, gently pour some of the melted chocolate onto the spoon, and it should drip down the side of the cake.

Once you’ve finished dripping the chocolate, let the cake sit for at least 30 minutes, so the chocolate can set. Once the chocolate is set, you’re ready to serve the cake!

Nutrition

One serving of chocolate drip cake contains: 399 calories, 23.9g fat, 48.6g carbohydrates, 3.2g protein, 2.6g fiber, and 59.8mg sodium. As you can see, this is not a light dessert! If you’re watching your weight, you may want to limit your portions of this decadent treat.

In spite of its high calorie count, chocolate drip cake can be part of a healthy, balanced diet. The combination of chocolate and buttercream can be a great way to treat yourself without overindulging. Just remember to enjoy it in moderation!
