Ingredients
- 1 cup leftover dal
- 1 cup wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 3-4 green chillies, chopped
- 2 tablespoons freshly chopped coriander leaves
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
First, make the dough for the dhokli. To do this, mix the wheat flour, salt and enough water to make a soft pliable dough. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth. Now divide the dough into small equal sized balls and roll them out into thin circles. Cut the circles into diamond shape pieces and keep aside.
Heat the oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds and let it crackle. Add the mustard seeds and let it crackle. Now add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds. Add the chopped green chillies and sauté for a few seconds.
Now add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, coriander powder and sauté for a few seconds. Add the leftover dal and stir everything together. Add salt to taste and enough water to make a thick gravy. Simmer the mixture for 5-7 minutes.
Now add the dhokli pieces to the simmering dal and mix everything together. Cover the pan and cook for 10-15 minutes or until the dhokli pieces are cooked properly. Once the dhokli pieces are cooked, switch off the flame and add the freshly chopped coriander leaves and mix everything together.
Dal Dhokli is now ready to be served. Serve it hot with some steamed rice or roti.
