What is a Cornish Pasty?

Ingredients
- 500g of plain flour
- 250g of butter
- 2 eggs
- 250ml of water
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 large onion, peeled and diced
- 200ml of beef stock
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried thyme
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, butter, eggs and water until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, then set aside.
3. In a separate bowl, mix together the minced beef, potatoes, onion, beef stock, pepper, thyme and salt.
4. Divide the dough into eight equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle, about 12cm in diameter.
5. Place a portion of the filling onto one half of each circle of dough. Brush the edges of the dough with water and fold the other half of the circle over the filling, pressing down to seal the edges. Crimp the edges of the pasty with a fork.
6. Place the pasties onto a greased baking tray and brush with beaten egg. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
