Best Guacamole Recipe Alton Brown
Ingredients
For this delicious guacamole recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients: 2 ripe Hass avocados, 1/2 cup diced onion, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro, 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper. You’ll also need a medium size bowl and a mortar and pestle.
Instructions
To start, cut the avocados in half and remove the pits. Scoop the avocado flesh into the bowl and mash with a fork or a potato masher. Add the onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, cumin, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix until fully combined. If you prefer a chunky guacamole, you can leave the mixture slightly chunky. Or, if you prefer a smoother guacamole, you can mash it until it is the desired consistency. Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasonings, if needed.
Serving
Serve the guacamole with tortilla chips, pita chips, or even spread it on a toasted piece of toast for a tasty snack. Or, you can use it as a topping for tacos, burritos, or even salads. Guacamole also makes a great dip for cut up vegetables, such as carrots and celery.
Storage
If you have any leftovers, you can store the guacamole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Just be sure to press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to prevent it from browning. To help prevent browning, you can also add a few drops of lime juice to the top of the guacamole before storing.
