Recipe For Fish Pie Mary Berry



Fish Pie is one of the British classic dishes that has been around for centuries. This traditional dish is still a popular one today, and it is no surprise why. Ingredients



For the filling:

- 500g mixed fish (cod, haddock, smoked haddock, salmon and/or prawns)
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ½ teaspoon dried mixed herbs
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons plain flour
- 600ml milk
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 100g fresh or frozen peas
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper

For the topping:

- 450g potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 25g grated Cheddar cheese

Instructions



1. Preheat the oven to 190°C/fan 170°C/gas 5. Put the fish in a large saucepan with the bay leaves. Cover with cold water and bring to the boil. Simmer for 3 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through. Remove the fish from the pan and rinse under cold water. Strain the liquid and reserve it.

2. Put the butter and herbs in a large saucepan and melt over a low heat. Add the onion and fry gently for 5 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add the reserved fish cooking liquid and the milk, stirring all the time until you have a smooth sauce. Bring to the boil and simmer for 3 minutes.

3. Flake the fish into the sauce and add the parsley and peas. Season with salt and pepper and stir to combine. Transfer the mixture to a deep ovenproof dish and spread evenly.

4. To make the topping, put the potatoes in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pan. Add the butter and milk and mash until smooth.

5. Spoon the mashed potato over the fish mixture and spread evenly. Sprinkle with the cheese and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the topping is golden-brown and the filling is bubbling. Serve hot.
