Instructions
1. Begin by soaking the Basmati rice and lentils for about 20 minutes. Drain the excess water and keep aside.
2. Heat the ghee in a heavy bottomed pan and add the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, ginger garlic paste, garam masala, turmeric powder, green chillies, and red chilli powder. Fry for a few minutes until the spices are fragrant.
3. Now add the soaked rice and lentils to the pan and fry for a few minutes. Add 3 cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the pan and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice and lentils are cooked.
4. Once the rice and lentils are cooked, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of ghee and salt according to taste. Mix everything well and cook for a few minutes.
5. Serve hot with curd or raita.
