Dal Dhokli is a delicious and nutritious dish, a one-pot meal that is prepared by simmering dal and wheat flour dumplings in a spicy and flavorful curry. Ingredients



To make Dal Dhokli, you will need:

  • 1 cup toor dal
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 3-4 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon jaggery or sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon carom seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Making Dal Curry

  • Soak the toor dal in enough water for at least an hour.
  • Drain and transfer to a pressure cooker. Add turmeric powder and 1 cup water.
  • Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the dal is cooked and mushy.
  • Heat oil in a large kadhai or pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves. Let the seeds splutter.
  • Add red chilli powder and coriander powder and sauté for a few seconds.
  • Add the chopped onions and sauté till they turn golden brown.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till they turn soft and mushy.
  • Add the cooked dal, jaggery or sugar, and salt to taste. Mix well and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Simmer the dal for 10-15 minutes or until the desired consistency is achieved.
  • Add the chopped coriander leaves and mix well.

Making Dhoklis

  • To make the dhoklis, take the wheat flour in a large bowl.
  • Add oil, carom seeds, turmeric powder, coriander leaves, and salt to taste.
  • Add enough water and knead into a soft dough.
  • Divide the dough into small portions and roll into thin discs.
  • Cut the discs into diamond shapes using a knife.
  • Repeat with the remaining dough.
  • Drop the dhoklis in the boiling dal and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve hot with rice or chapati.
