Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon jaggery or sugar
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1/4 teaspoon carom seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons coriander leaves, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
Instructions
Making Dal Curry
- Soak the toor dal in enough water for at least an hour.
- Drain and transfer to a pressure cooker. Add turmeric powder and 1 cup water.
- Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the dal is cooked and mushy.
- Heat oil in a large kadhai or pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves. Let the seeds splutter.
- Add red chilli powder and coriander powder and sauté for a few seconds.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté till they turn golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till they turn soft and mushy.
- Add the cooked dal, jaggery or sugar, and salt to taste. Mix well and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Simmer the dal for 10-15 minutes or until the desired consistency is achieved.
- Add the chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
Making Dhoklis
- To make the dhoklis, take the wheat flour in a large bowl.
- Add oil, carom seeds, turmeric powder, coriander leaves, and salt to taste.
- Add enough water and knead into a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll into thin discs.
- Cut the discs into diamond shapes using a knife.
- Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Drop the dhoklis in the boiling dal and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Serve hot with rice or chapati.
