Ingredients
For the dal:
- 1 cup tuvar dal (split pigeon peas)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- Salt to taste
For the dhokli:
- 1 cup wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons oil
- Salt to taste
- Water as required
Instructions
Making the Dal
1. Wash and soak the tuvar dal in water for 15 minutes.
2. Place the pressure cooker on medium heat and add the dal to it. Add 2 cups of water and all the spices and salt as per your taste.
3. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook the dal for 2 whistles. Once the pressure is released, open the lid and mash the dal with a spoon.
Making the Dhokli
1. In a bowl, mix the wheat flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, oil, and salt. Add water as required and make a soft dough.
2. Roll out the dough on a flat surface and cut it into 1-inch pieces. Take each piece and make a small ball out of it.
3. Add the dhokli balls to the pressure cooker and close the lid. Cook for 1 whistle.
4. Once the pressure is released, open the lid and mix the dal and the dhokli together.
Serving
Dal Dhokli is best served hot with steamed rice, chapati, or puris. Enjoy it with some pickle or onions and a dollop of ghee.
