Ingredients

To make a delicious pizza base, you will need the following ingredients: 500g of strong white bread flour, 1 teaspoon of fine sea salt, 7g of sachet of fast-action dried yeast, 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, and 300ml of lukewarm water.

Instructions

To start, mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the yeast, oil, and water together and stir until it forms a smooth liquid. Pour the liquid mixture into the bowl with the flour and salt, and use your hands or a wooden spoon to mix everything together until it forms a dough. Once the dough has come together, turn it out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead the dough for around 10 minutes, until it's smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky. Then, place the dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp tea towel. Leave it in a warm place to rise for around 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Once it has risen, turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead it for 1 minute. If you're making a large pizza, divide the dough in two and shape them into two balls. If you're making a small pizza, just shape the dough into a single ball. Place the dough ball(s) onto a lightly floured tray, cover with a damp tea towel, and leave to rest for 30 minutes.

When you're ready to make your pizza, preheat your oven to its highest setting, around 250°C/450°F/gas mark 9. Divide the dough into two pieces and roll each piece out into a large circle. Place the pizza bases on oiled baking trays and cover with your favorite pizza toppings. Bake the pizzas in the oven for 8-10 minutes. Once the pizzas are golden and crispy, remove them from the oven and enjoy!
